This Privacy Policy explains how Fishable, referred to as we or us, collects, uses and protects personal data when you use our website, app and related services (Services). By using Fishable, you agree to this Policy.

Fishable is operated by Fishable Ltd, Clyde Offices, 2nd Floor, 48 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 1BP, United Kingdom. Any reference to we or us means Fishable Ltd.

1. Overview

We collect and process personal data so we can provide the Fishable app, operate user accounts, store fishing activity and social content, deliver weather and location features, send notifications you choose to receive, improve the app, and keep the platform safe.

We comply with UK GDPR and other UK data protection laws.


2. Who can use Fishable

Fishable is intended for users aged 13 and over.
If you are under 13, you must not use Fishable.
If you are 13 or over but under 18, you should use Fishable with a parent or guardian’s permission where required by law.
When you create an account, you may be asked to confirm that you meet the minimum age requirement. We may store the date and method of that confirmation.


3. Data we collect

Account and profile data

  • Email address, username, password (stored securely via our authentication provider)

  • Optional profile information such as display name, bio, profile photo, cover photo, fishing preferences, home water, kit details, and profile links

  • Account type (for example angler or fishery), verification status where applicable

  • Privacy and notification settings

Fishing logs and trip data

  • Trip dates and times, notes, species, catch counts, weights, lengths, gear, methods, companions, enjoyment and experience ratings

  • Location information you add to a trip, including venue names, spot labels or nicknames, map coordinates, and optional map snapshots

  • Weather data linked to a trip

  • Photos you upload (up to 10 per trip)

  • Visibility settings for each trip (only me, followers, or public)

Profile updates and social content

  • Text and photos in profile updates

  • Comments, replies, likes, @mentions, and related activity

  • Follow and follow-request relationships

  • Reports you submit about content or users

Location data

  • Location you choose when logging a trip, saving favourites, picking spots on the map, or setting home water

  • If you grant permission, device location for features such as current-location weather, nearby feed content, and location search

  • We do not continuously track your location in the background unless a feature you enable clearly requires it

Photos and media

  • Catch photos, profile photos, cover photos, and photos in updates

  • Face-blur edits are applied on your device before upload where you choose to use that feature

  • Photo metadata (such as EXIF data) may be read only where needed to support features you use, for example attaching location or date information to a log

Notifications

  • Push notification device tokens

  • Your notification preferences (for example fishing alerts, trip reminders, social activity, trip alerts, and favourites forecast)

  • Records needed to deliver notifications and deep links into the app

Technical and usage data

  • IP address, device type, operating system, app version, and general interaction data

  • Screen-view analytics within the app (for example which main screens are opened)

  • Cookies and similar technologies on our website (see our Cookie Policy)

Payment information

  • Fishable does not currently offer paid subscriptions in the app

  • If paid features are introduced later, we may process limited billing information through an approved payment provider. Full card details would not be stored by us


4. How we use your data

We use personal data to:

  • Provide and operate your account and the Services

  • Store, sync and display your trips, updates, photos, stats and insights

  • Operate social features such as feeds, follows, comments, likes and @mentions

  • Show content according to your privacy and visibility settings

  • Provide weather forecasts, fishing scores, alerts and location-based features

  • Send push notifications and service messages you have chosen or that are necessary for the Services

  • Process reports, enforce our terms, and help keep the community safe

  • Improve features, fix issues, understand usage, and maintain security

  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal data.

5. Legal bases we use

Depending on the activity, we rely on one or more of the following:

  • Contract – to provide the Fishable app and account

  • Consent – for example marketing emails, optional location access, push notifications, and reading photo metadata where consent is required

  • Legitimate interests – for app improvement, analytics, troubleshooting, security, moderation, and preventing misuse

  • Legal obligation – where we must retain or disclose information by law

You can withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. This does not affect processing already carried out.


6. How content visibility works

You control much of what others can see:

  • Account visibility can be private, followers-only, or public

  • Individual trips and updates can be set to only me, followers, or public, subject to account settings

  • Other users may see content you make visible to them, interact with it, or receive notifications related to it (for example if you @mention them or they follow you and enable trip alerts)

Please think carefully before posting location details or photos you do not want others to see.


7. Sharing and disclosures

We share data only as needed to operate the Services, with:

  • Supabase – database, authentication, file storage, and backend services

  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs) – to deliver push notifications to iOS devices

  • Open-Meteo – weather forecast data

  • Apple MapKit – map display, location search and geocoding

  • PostHog – app analytics (such as screen views)

  • Email providers – for account, support or service emails where used

  • Professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement – only when required or reasonably necessary

We may also share information if Fishable is reorganised, sold, or merged, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell personal information.


8. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions, preferences and analytics.

In the app, we use analytics tools to understand how features are used. You can contact us if you have questions about this.


9. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy.

  • Account data – kept while your account is active

  • Trips, updates, photos and social content – kept while your account is active, or until you delete the content or account

  • After account deletion – we aim to delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period. Some data may remain in backups for a limited time before being overwritten

  • Technical logs – kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting

  • Reports and safety records – may be kept longer where needed for moderation, legal or security reasons


10. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access your data

  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data

  • Delete your data

  • Restrict or object to certain processing

  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format where applicable

  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

  • Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

To use any of your rights, email privacy@getfishable.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.


11. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards, including:

  • Secure hosting with Supabase

  • Encryption in transit

  • Access controls limiting who can access personal data

  • Routine review of security practices

No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take steps to protect your data.


12. International transfers

If data is transferred outside the UK, we use approved safeguards such as:

  • UK International Data Transfer Agreements / Standard Contractual Clauses

  • Adequacy regulations

  • Other protections required by UK GDPR


13. Children

Fishable is not intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, contact privacy@getfishable.com and we will take steps to delete it.


14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted, and we will update the “Last updated” date.

Continued use of Fishable after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
